Flinch

we free falling from the skyscrapers
rushing towards the earth
we were on a suicide mission together
reaching for a virtuous goal

but when I looked back
and saw my innocent family
I flinched
I blinked
and that’s all it took to land safely

when I opened my eyes
you were gone
evaporated into the clouds
high above the sky

climbing up the hill
with the bare legs and arms
I cry for our dreams soak in rain
and rage on towards the top
