Restless

A fire flickers on a flint of wood.

It is undeniably flammable,

yet so ephemeral and minute.

Let it become large, and it engulfs.

Let it dissipate, and no one will remember.

Let your eyes mesmerize in its glow,

and the time will slip by.

Stay awake. It may be painful,

but this is the only way.

Forgiveness

Like the silence after the fire has gone out,

there only remains nothingness

when you ask me, “why did you do it?”

As I search for words, certain icicles start to fall,

bearing the words, irrational, emotional, and inexperienced.

As you mourn, I can only grind my teeth

and promise I will carry this burden.

It’s a long, long journey in the desert.
