to know you are truly free is a necessity
more than the boundaries of the body,
it is the boundary of the mind that hinders.
once we try — and fail — we recognize it
every day, we strive to be freer,
to experience who we truly are.

Koi Fish
I’ve heard there’s no limit to koi fish to grow.
But caged in a small glass bowl
looking out into the world,
I’ve heard it does not fathom ever growing larger
than the size of a bowl
I wonder how I can scoop one out of the bowl
and let it grow in the river
so that it can grow, swim free as it wishes,
and rise to its calling,
to become a dragon.

Race
thighs are burning
throat is dry
jaws are clenching
teeth are grinding
fists gripped tight
as if to pulling the air
thrusting the body forward
time has never been too tangible
limits of free moving body lamentable
but don’t give up the race yet!
it ain’t over till it’s over.
