Consistent

Memory is sticky.

It stays with you even when you thought you have outrun it.

In the moments of torrential rain

or de-moisturizing heat of the blazing sun,

it will stay with you.

So I wrote it a letter,

explaining why I had to move forward.

I explained that thanks to the memories,

those that shined brightly,

and those that hurt the most,

I now know where to go.

So the memory listened and remembered what I said.

Courage

For the sake of humanity,

reach out.

Ask for a chat, for a meal, or for a coffee.

Have the courage ask for a companionship.

Have courage to break out of your own thorny shell,

and have a courage to be vulnerable.

Why?

Because it’s not always gloom and doom,

and the future cannot be it either.

You can handle it.

Believe it and venture outside.

Distance

I have sensed something,

like tracing a trail of breadcrumbs,

a feeling like something is out of place.

Some had commented in passing,

as if there’s a stain on my face I don’t recognize.

But only recently have I started feel it,

a sense of distancing, a sense of refusal, or a sense of defiance.

What is this? Has this always been here?

It’s a curious phenomenon, one that calls my immediate attention.

Friends

We’d beam at the sight of a green forest,

and run barefooted into the unknown.

Snails, crayfish, and tadpoles were the treasures.

I did not know a laughter could be dispensed so freely.

Songs we sang, the mountains we climbed,

all now awashed in the torrential rain.

Yet our work is still there for us.

Let’s keep going at it.

Tomorrow will be a better day.
