blue bell flowers bowed like nuns in covenant
peonies gleamed like happy hippos

I wondered if I was dreaming
everything looked perfect as they were

clouded by loneliness, it might be hard to see
but, ah well, just experience it. You’ll see.
you’ll see the beauty in serene atmosphere
you’ll find peace of mind
uninterrupted by intruders
for who are to stop the intruders from making noise?
what and how would you stop those from making noise?
once you’ve realized the cost
you come to appreciate the prize
but one must wonder:
what was the true cost here?
we must live together as human beings
but we also crave to have our own haven.

once in awhile, I let myself walk in the rain
letting raindrops hit against my body
it’s liberating, somehow
like a tower of sand I built as a child
shells of some kind around body starts melting
as the raindrop seeps into my heart
I wonder what it is about the rain
that brings this gravitas

be gentle for a moment
instead of walking to hit each other
talking as if to run away from another
staring as if to judge the other
can we see each other just as we are
stop hiding, running, and insulting

I was sitting on a wooden chair
next to a wide balcony window
through which sunlight like
golden desert sand beamed softly
basking in the light I read a book
and across the table was my mom
reading her book in silence
I don’t know why
but it was the warmest moment.

being like this, not pressed
to keep on doing something
for the sake of survival, for approval
perhaps this sickness is blessing in disguise
one I might have had to encounter to realize
a few hidden messages for myself
from my past self perhaps to remind myself
that there are choices in life to be made

mind is in a blurry white mist
time passes slowly but a day goes by fast
as if a cold sandbag’s on my head and freezes
train of thoughts, perhaps it’s Tylenol that has
thankfully quenched the fire of white knots
perhaps it’s the lack of sleep from last night
I can’t tell; since I lost sense of smell
what feelings I had day-to-day
except for this salty mucus with hint of sadness
I suppose I should continue to work
for nothing else seems to give me relief
