Into the dark room, the white sun light softly landed.
Alighting the room quietly, I stared
as contents of the room surfaced their shapes nakedly.
I cut the carrots with a knife on a cutting board,
stirred cold green tea in a mug cup,
and chewed on bits of tuna from a can.
And I knew, for the first time, what it means to be alone.
I understood what she meant
when she advised me to go to the mountains.

The electricity shut down.
As I sat in a dark still room,
I savored the eloquent tune of silence.
Snow fell outside unflinchingly
and no one moved.
I stared as the dim light shone through window
the wooden floor, the dining table, and the chair stayed barren.
Without distraction, illusions, or deliberation,
I saw what is.
And that satisfied my senses.

What we promised.
What we whispered.
I remember them.
As real as the memories are
so are the words are speak to engrave them.
May these words capture the truest,
honest view of what remains in me.
May you here these words
and knew they were true.
